History

The beginning of wine and olive growing in our region can not be dated, but goes back to mesapic - pre roman - times at least. Wines form Apulia are mentioned in roman writings. Importantly there is a parchment from the "dark ages" (1179) of a byzantine hermitage in our immediate neighborhood mentioning our local wines and specifying that they were well appreciated and exported by the port of Brindisi as far as Lebanon and Syria.

On the first maps of Apulia and in medival lists of landownerships is our region called "Sarolo". The origin of this name is not known. To honor our old traditions and revive the name of our soil we call our traditional, autochtone wines "Sarolo".
